My Story

My Story (Bio)In the beginning.....I was a 70's baby, born in Hackensack, NJ and raised in NYC, Queens and later Long Island, where I now reside with my family. My yoga journey began when I was a teenager however, at the time I was only practicing for physical benefits. My attitude however shifted tremendously when I became pregnant with my son in 1998. It was then that I realized that the physical practice (aka asana practice) was only one aspect of yoga . My son offered me a pathway to my heart by showing me the true meaning of unconditional love. He also taught me to be fearless. It was at that point that my practice literally expanded.Teaching, Training & Certifications......I have been teaching special populations and the general public yoga, Pilates and Wellness programs for over 11 years. I have over a dozen certifications which include: Yoga, Pilates, Mind/Body Fitness, Raw Food Nutrition and Wellness Coaching. My yoga training includes over 500 hours of extensive training in various styles of yoga which include: Hatha, Kundalini, Ashtanga and Sivananda Yoga. I am however currently pursuing my certification in Anusara Yoga. My teaching style embraces all elements of my previous training, with an emphasis on alignment and grace (and I give thanks & props to Anusara Yoga for that). Some of my teachers and influences have included: Beryl Bender Birch, Doug Sweson, Lois Neisbitt, John Friend and Pattabhi Jois. Prior to being a full-time yoga teacher, I worked as a Social and Human Services professional and hold a degree in Social Work. I was also the former owner and director of the Breathe Yoga Studio on Long Island.What's next?..........My mission as a teacher is to serve, guide and help my students connect to their inner and outer bodies through integrated methods and yoga. My future goals include, teaching more community classes for charity and traveling around the world, to teach and to serve.Namaste''...peace, love and & light,Desiree
